Everything I'm Looking For

Some days I forget,
that I have all this pain.
When I wake up and see you there, watching me.
It reminds me of the days when we were younger.

Time has changed nothing between us,
Maybe made us fragile somehow?
Breakable imitations of ourselves.
This end up and handle with care.
You certainly hold me carefully, afraid I may break.
But I catch your glances at me, and I know you see the real me.
The me I can't seem to find at any turn.

We have nights filled with reruns and various takeout.
In a single room filled with the stale smell of smoke.
It's a comfort to have you always by my side.
Letting me know, without a word, I might not be as fragile as I think.

For so long I have been looking for a trace of this woman I masquerade myself to be.
I was sure she was gone forever.
Was I doomed to play pretend for a lifetime?
Plastic smiles? Always out of place?
A frightened girl hidden smartly behind a well crafted charade.
I think I'm about to find everything I've I'm looking for.
All because of you, and how you helped me forget to look.
Who knew I'd find myself during reruns and takeout?
